What Makes San Diego Different
San Diego has one of the largest shipyard economies in California — yards like NASSCO employ thousands of workers who suffer serious injuries and chemical exposures that often manifest years later. Shipyard worker injuries may be covered under both state workers' comp and, in some cases, the federal Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act — knowing which system applies is critical.
The Workers' Comp Process in San Diego
The process follows California law:
- Report your injury to your supervisor or HR immediately.
- Request the DWC-1 form.
- Get medical care.
- Do not sign anything from the insurer without consulting an attorney.
The insurer has between 14 and 90 days to accept or deny your claim. If it's denied, we appeal at the San Diego WCAB office, where San Diego cases are heard.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have an office in San Diego?
Our main office is in Los Angeles, but we represent workers across all of California, including San Diego. We work by phone, video, and email — the majority of cases don't require office visits until the day of trial or formal conference, which take place at the San Diego WCAB office near where you work.
I was hurt working in San Diego. Where will my case be processed?
Your case will be processed at the San Diego WCAB office, the workers' comp board that covers San Diego County. We know that court and handle cases there regularly.
I'm undocumented and work in San Diego. Can I receive benefits?
Yes. Your immigration status does not affect your right to workers' comp benefits in California. The insurer cannot use your status against you. California law protects all workers.
How much does it cost to hire you?
Nothing up front. We work on contingency. If we recover benefits for you, our fees are approved by a WCAB judge and typically run 15% of disability benefits. If we recover nothing, you owe nothing.
